There is no universal answer. Granite, suitable quartzite, quartz composite or porcelain are often considered for active kitchens. Marble is also used where its appearance is worth the additional care. Final selection should be based on the actual material and use case.
Quartzite is a natural rock with a unique pattern in every slab. Quartz composite is an engineered material with more controlled decoration and properties defined by a specific manufacturer collection.

Yes. The translucency of onyx can be used for illuminated panels and feature compositions. Lighting, substrate, ventilation, fixing and service access should be designed together with the stone.
Selection depends on the room, traffic, moisture, required finish and maintenance. Granite or suitable quartzite are often considered for higher-load areas; marble and travertine are selected with the specific conditions and finish in mind.
