Real marble slabs
Selection should start with the actual slab rather than a colour name. Natural marble varies in tone, vein direction, pattern, inclusions and usable area. A useful inventory card therefore needs a current photograph, dimensions, thickness, finish, origin and confirmed availability.
Where marble is used
Walls, fireplaces, window sills, floors and countertops have different performance requirements. Selection should consider exposure to acids, water and hot objects, traffic levels, slip resistance where relevant and the owner’s willingness to follow a suitable care routine.
What affects the price
The finished price combines the selected slab and its usable yield with thickness, pattern layout, edges, cut-outs, reinforcement, surface finish, delivery and installation. A price per square metre of raw stone is therefore not the final price of a fabricated product.
Fabrication, delivery and installation
After the material is selected, measurements, drawings, vein and joint positions, edge treatment and technical tolerances are approved. Before fabrication, the client should be able to see what the quote includes, which decisions remain open and how the finished pieces will be delivered and installed.

Usable yield and layout
Vein direction, pattern matching and component positions determine how much of the slab can be used and how much offcut remains.
Thickness and finish
Material thickness and a polished, honed or other approved finish change both material consumption and fabrication stages.
Edges, cut-outs and reinforcement
Edge profiles, holes, appliance cut-outs, build-ups and technical reinforcement are calculated from the approved drawings.
Delivery and installation
Piece weight, floor access, lifting, site access, substrate readiness and joint complexity are assessed separately from the stone price.

The right option is chosen from an actual slab, the kitchen layout, component sizes and expected use. For a busy worktop, sensitivity to acidic food, heat and coloured spills should be discussed before the material is approved.

Can marble be used in a bathroom?

How should marble be maintained?
