TECHNICAL DESIGN

Falls, drainage and waterproofing must operate as one system

A stone tray does not replace the waterproofing envelope. Before cutting, we coordinate the substrate, water path, finish, joints, shower glass, service access and installation sequence.

01

Geometry and falls

Falls are designed to direct water evenly without local hollows or ponding. Geometry is coordinated with panel format and drain location.

02

Point or linear drain

The exact model, height, flow capacity and position are fixed. A removable stone drain cover can be developed where the system allows it.

03

Substrate and waterproofing

Substrate rigidity and levels are checked, while waterproofing continuity and interfaces are coordinated with the responsible trades.

04

Slip-conscious finish

Honed, matt or textured finishes are considered for wet areas. Final suitability is assessed for the actual material and use conditions.

05

Joints, threshold and glass

Perimeter joints, wall interfaces, threshold or level entry and the position of shower glass are planned together.

06

Installation and service

Weight, access, lifting, installation sequence, trap access and future drain maintenance are considered before fabrication.

COST

What determines the shower-tray price

A quotation follows the geometry, actual material, drain system, finish, substrate condition and installation access. A price without these inputs can be misleading.

Material and slab yield

Cost depends on the selected slab, thickness, component format, pattern and fabrication waste.

Size, geometry and drain

Area, complexity of falls, point or linear drainage, stone cover and component count all affect the estimate.

Finish and technical details

Slip-conscious finishing, profiles, upstands, grooves, joints, sealing and cut-outs are priced for the approved design.

Delivery and installation

Access, floor level, lifting, substrate readiness, installation, shower-glass coordination and adjacent work are considered.

WORKFLOW

From bathroom plan to completed shower zone

01

Brief and project inputs

We receive the plan, approximate dimensions, photographs, drain model and preferences for material, entry and shower glass.

02

Technical consultation and survey

Geometry, levels, substrate, services, finish build-ups and delivery access are checked.

03

Material selection and drawings

The actual slab and finish are selected, then falls, joints, drain and interfaces are documented.

04

Fabrication

Components are cut, falls and edges formed, openings and surfaces finished and geometry checked.

05

Site-readiness check

Before installation, substrate, waterproofing envelope, drain, access and adjacent finishes are checked against the agreed sequence.

06

Delivery and installation

Components are delivered, installed and agreed interfaces sealed, followed by care and operating guidance.

SITE READINESS

What must be confirmed before the final survey

Accurate substrate, drain, wall, glass and finished-level information reduces the risk of rework after stone fabrication.

01

Finished shower geometry

Actual dimensions, wall-finish build-ups and whether the entry has a threshold or is level must be known.

02

Drain model and position

Technical data, installation height, outlet direction and the final point or linear-drain position are required.

03

Substrate and waterproofing

The substrate must be rigid and level strategy agreed, with responsibility for waterproofing and sequencing clearly assigned.

04

Shower glass and doors

Glass line, door type, fixings, clearances and concealed-service exclusion zones are recorded.

05

Adjacent finishes

Wall and floor finish thicknesses, interfaces, joints and finished levels must be coordinated.

06

Access and lifting

Doorways, lifts, stairs, unloading position and safe handling of large or heavy components are checked.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

What to know before ordering

How much does a natural-stone shower tray cost?

Cost depends on the actual material, size, geometry, drain type, component count, finish, technical details, delivery and installation. A precise quotation follows the project data and survey.

Which stone is best for a shower tray?

Selection depends on design, care and use intensity. Granite and quartzite are generally practical; marble needs more attentive maintenance; travertine requires suitable filling and protection.

Will a stone shower tray be slippery?

Risk depends on the material, finish and use conditions. Mirror-polished surfaces are generally avoided in wet zones in favour of honed, matt or textured finishes.

How are falls to the drain formed?

Falls are established in the drawing and formed through the geometry of the stone components or the prepared substrate, depending on size, format and drainage design.

Can a linear drain be used?

Yes. The exact model, installation height, length, flow capacity and position relative to walls and glass must be confirmed.

Does the stone tray replace waterproofing?

No. The tray is the finished stone assembly; a continuous compatible waterproofing envelope at the substrate, walls, drain and interfaces is a separate system.

When should the final survey take place?

After finished geometry, drain model and position, wall-finish thicknesses, shower-glass line and the agreed substrate build-up are established.

Can the tray be made to a non-standard size or shape?

Yes. Rectangular, corner, niche and custom solutions are possible where correct falls, joints, drainage and installation can be achieved.

How should a stone shower tray be maintained?

Use neutral cleaners, rinse soap residue regularly, avoid aggressive chemicals and follow the care guidance for the selected material, finish and protective treatment.
